EFT Tapping Studies

Clinical EFT Improves Multiple Physiological Markers of Health

Clinical EFT as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological and physiological

Clinical EFT as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological and physiological

Results

Participant scores for happiness, anxiety, depression, PTSD, pain, and cravings were compared before and after treatment using the Wilcoxon signed rank test for paired samples. In order to make the least number of assumptions about the data, it was deemed appropriate to use the nonparametric Wilcoxon signed rank test rather than t tests. Changes in BP, RHR, cortisol, SigA levels, HRV, and HC in a subsample of participants were also determined using the Wilcoxon signed rank test. All statistical analyses were performed using the SPSS statistical package version 24.

Clinical EFT as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological and physiological

Clinical EFT as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological and physiological

Clinical EFT as an evidence-based practice for the treatment of psychological and physiological

Results: RCTs have found EFT treatment to be effective for (a) psychological conditions such as anxiety, depression, phobias, and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD); (b) physiological issues such as pain, insomnia, and autoimmune conditions; (c) professional and sports performance; and (d) biological markers of stress. Meta-analyses evaluating the effect of EFT treatment have found it to be "moderate" to "large." Successful independent replication studies have been carried out for anxiety, depression, PTSD, phobias, sports performance, and cortisol levels. We outline the next steps in EFT research. These include determining its impact on cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and cognitive impairment; analysis of the large-scale datasets made possible by mobile apps; and delivery through channels such as virtual practitioner sessions, artificial intelligence agents, online courses, apps, virtual reality platforms, and standardized group therapy.techniques to help alleviate pain, reduce stress, and improve overall wellness. We offer both individual and group sessions.

What Is EFT Tapping? Your Guide To Emotional Freedom Technique

Emotional Freedom Technique: Research supports benefits of tapping for mental health

The benefits of EFT tapping

EFT tapping might simply make you feel better, period, whether or not you’re feeling bad to start with. One study found that at the time it was performed, EFT tapping increased happiness by 31%.

“Another study showed that it can lead to up to a 43% decrease in cortisol levels, which is one of the body’s primary stress hormones,” Dr. Young points out, “so that’s pretty impressive.”

Other studies on EFT tapping have shown that it may be able to help relieve symptoms of various conditions:

  • Anxiety: “We see the most evidence for its capacity for lowering anxiety,” Dr. Young says. Studies on EFT tapping found that it leads to a significant decrease in anxiety, though more research is needed to see how well it works compared to standard treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy.
  • Depression: A survey of 20 studies on EFT tapping for depression found that it reduced depressive symptoms at least as well as other treatments.
  • Pain: EFT tapping has been shown to benefit people with tension headaches, frozen shoulder and other chronic pain.
  • Post-traumatic stress disorder: EFT tapping may help military veterans living with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). One study found that veterans who were trained in this method “significantly reduced” their psychological stress; within six months, 80% of them no longer met the clinical criteria for having PTSD.
  • Cravings: Multiple studies show that EFT tapping can help reduce food cravings and lessen the perceived power of food, making it a helpful addition to traditional weight loss techniques like a healthy diet and exercise.
  • Phobias: A small study showed that EFT tapping significantly reduced anxiety related to specific phobias.

Emotional Freedom Techniques to Treat Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Veterans

Results

Most practitioners (63%) reported that even complex PTSD can be remediated in 10 or fewer EFT sessions. Some 65% of practitioners found that more than 60% of PTSD clients are fully rehabilitated, and 89% stated that less than 10% of clients make little or no progress. Practitioners combined EFT with a wide variety of other approaches, especially cognitive therapy. Practitioner responses, evidence from the literature, and the results of a meta-analysis were aggregated into a proposed clinical guideline.
